To deliver on this, we must grow an industry which delivers high-quality experiences for both domestic and international visitors while having a positive impact on local communities, contributing to the restoration and protection of our natural environment, and growing the economic sustainability of the sector.
The Tourism Sustainability Commitment (TSC) is a framework that supports tourism businesses to make sustainability progress across 12 Commitments. It is not certification, accreditation or verification of sustainability performance.
The TSC was developed by Tourism Industry Aotearoa (TIA) in 2017 and refreshed in 2020 with strong backing from New Zealand’s tourism industry. We invite every New Zealand tourism business to join us on this sustainability journey. Sign up now to the Tourism Sustainability Commitment and work towards the 12 TSC Commitments across four pillars: Economic (Ōhanga), Visitor (Manuhiri), Community (Hapori) and Environment (Taiao).
The TSC supports He Pae Tukutuku | Tourism 2050: A Blueprint for Impact, connecting action within individual businesses to the industry’s wider sustainability ambitions.
As part of our wider work to support the TSC, TIA is a signatory to the Glasgow Declaration on Climate Action in Tourism. This supports our work within TIA and alongside the tourism industry to measure and reduce carbon emissions, guided by five pathways: Measure, Decarbonise, Regenerate, Collaborate and Finance.
